life at home

Hey guys,

I hope you're all doing well. Life here is boring/okay. Without weekly prayer meetings, bible study, church stuff, I suddenly realize I have a lot of time on my hands. Though that might change after this Thursday because my Covenant Life membership interview is this Thursday. Afterward, I'll be an official member of Covenant Life church, and I'm expected to serve in some way at the church. My first choice: outreach ministry.

Anyhooz I've been thinking a lot about post-graduation. Where am I headed career-wise? Life-wise, I'm set or I believe so. I know my identity. I'm Christian. I know whom I serve. But to survive on earth, I need to have some future career plan. Maybe God will tweak it a little, maybe He'll close doors, but a lot of the decision-making in this area is up to me. At the moment, I've roughly mapped out two possible career routes:

1. Graduate, find a job in brand management/marketing/sales/finance, etc. Any business-related career that is conducive to ministry is fine. Get an MBA and continue down this road. Pros: $$ and lots of room for creativity, Cons: Avg. 50-70 hrs a week as I move up the "career ladder" and marketing is a lot of soft skills (I'll be easily replaceable)

2. Graduate (I hope so) after taking Bio 1b, MCB something, and bio-statistics, find a job in the healthcare/pharmaceutical/public health sector. Work 5 yrs. Go to business school (preferably Haas School of Business or a business school near a church plant), get a dual degree MBA/MPH, go into health management. Pros: $, somewhat normal work hrs, fast-expanding career path. Cons: Not too much creativity involved, kind of a boring career (*runs away from people who are very very much in love with public health, maybe I'll learn to love it!), you need to have a good undergraduate GPA (avg. 3.6)

At the moment, it seems like the second option is the best. The biggest problem: GPA. Why did I take econometrics in the Spring? It was destined to kill me mentally, physically, and career-ly. Oh well, it's time to start raising my GPA in the fall/spring. Please keep me accountable in the upcoming year. I don't want to be homeless on the streets after I graduate. If I'm not studying, if I'm wasting time, please kick me (as hard as you can).

xoxo,
Lily

bored

Hmmm...I'm super bored again. Nothing to report. Work has been boring and being at home has been boring. The only exciting thing that happened today was chatting with Nancy on skype. She took a lot of pictures of me. Weird pictures...ask her for them if you want to see. Apparently I can distort my voice on skype using special vocal effects. I can sound like a chipmunk, a ducky, a man, a robot, etc. It's so fun! Skype me so you can hear hhehehe

Back home

I'm homeeeeeee!! Had fish for dinner mmmmmmmmmm :) obviously.

--Today 5.23.10--
1. Went to church - asked about church membership. I think I can be a temporary member yay. Today's message was from 1 Peter 2:13-17, about submitting to earthly authorities. I liked the message a lot. Reminded me to live like a citizen of Heaven, not of earth. Also reminded me not to slander/make fun/show disrespect towards current authorities in government. God calls us to show respect for everyone. On the other hand, media is famous for slander, gossip, derision, etc. towards governing authorities. Christians are called to conduct themselves differently.

2. Went to a korean market, bought bulgogi, SHRIMP, salted seaweed, mung bean popsicles, and seasoned squid. Had some soybean paste stew for lunch.

3. (going to the mall to buy skincare products. my mom thinks my skin looks hideous)

4. (going to the gym tonight to run)

5. Have shrimp for dinner yay.

Love,
Lily

*Will post up some pictures later
